Sometimes I like to grab a protein bar from the health food store. I have a habit of reading the labels on everything and after studying the ingredients list on many different bars I decided I would put together a protein bar recipe that combines all the ingredients I like. This is dead simple to make and even husbands and kids will like them. I promise!

Love Your Body Protein Bars
1 1/2 cups organic pitted dates
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 – 2 cups hot water
1 1/2 cups oat flour
4 scoops organic plain rice protein powder
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup organic 100% pure maple syrup
2 teaspoons coconut oil
2 organic free-range eggs
2 tablespoons almond butter
Add the dates, bicarbonate of soda and 1 cup of hot water to a saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes or until the dates have broken down and are soft. Add more water if needed to keep the date mixture really moist.
Lightly beat the eggs and combine with all the remaining ingredients.
Add the softened mushy date mixture to the rest of the ingredients and combine really well with a wooden spoon.
Pour the mixture into a greased square or rectangle baking dish.
Bake in a pre-heated moderate oven (180 deg C) for 20-25 minutes or until the date bars are firm in the middle.
Allow to cool and cut into 12 bar sized pieces.
Store in an air tight container or give as a gift to a friend or loved one.

Lara Masselos - Hi Megan
How’s things? It seems you’ve been up to much since uni. I came across your blog via FB and LOVE your recipes. Just the perfect yummy & healthy veggie recipes. The pics are great too
admin - Thank you Lara. Glad you are enjoying the blog.
Louise - These look delicious – definitely going to give this recipe a try as soon as I find some rice protein powder. Is it something I’d find in health shops?
admin - Yes, you might get this in good health shops or in a body building supplements shop. I like to get mine online from iHerb.
People often ask me about protein powders.
I have a wide variety of protein powders in my kitchen. I believe it is important for your body to get a variety of foods and I mix up my protein source intake all the time.
Which one to choose really depends on your personal taste and what you are using it for. I have listed a few of the products I have below. I get these online from iHerb.
NutriBiotic, Organic Rice Protein, Plain, 1 lb 5 oz (600 g)

Obviously the NutriBiotic, Organic Rice Protein, Plain, is great because it is organic and has no additives but you couldn’t drink it with water or rice milk by itself in a shake. It doesn’t taste very nice but it works fine in the protein bar recipe, on the blog, or in a shake full of flavor (from blueberries, stevia powder etc).
The Garden of Life, Goatein, Pure Goat’s Milk Protein, is really palatable. You can easily drink this with water or plane rice milk in a shake. In-fact my non-vegetarian ‘gym junkie’ husband loves this one. It also tastes really nice in the cold porridge recipe that is on the blog.
The Sun Warrior, Protein, Raw Vegan, Vanilla, tastes good and has amazing nutritional attributes also including a full list of amino acids. It is flavored with natural vanilla and sweetened with stevia. One the downside this one is not organic.
google - I liked your article is an interesting technology
thanks to google I found you
